Death, Channelers And Dark Sprites
Death in Latria Works differently. For the most part, besides a few exceptions, death is not permanent. When the Gods arrived they showed humanity the prosperity of the soul, and they brought with them not just the technology of the revelation but the technology to help humanity decode the basis of their existence. With this was born the Phylactery. Large, coffin like, containers that with the help of a channeler can be used to bring the departed back to life. Though humanity still hasn’t reached the immortality of the Gods or even the unimaginable longevity of the Mora. Data becomes harder to recollect with age. Having become too vast and too faded to grab proper hold of. Every death also comes with the possibility of becoming corrupted. Whom upon death are incapable of being revived. In short, while death no longer holds an immediate end it has some very dire consequences.
Channelers are followers of the White who take it upon themselves to oversee the revival process. The path to becoming a channeler is a cruel one. As a channeler is blinded, muted and mutilated to never be able to know, tell or show the secrets of those whose data they oversee. Killing a channeler awards one with a prize never dreamed of and gives an abundance of Dark Sprites. Though doing so is the greatest act of heresy, and changes the person in ways unfathomable.
Dark sprites were discovered around the same time as the first corrupted outbreaks. Humans are capable of collecting Dark sprites in good quantities and their power is seen as essential to life in the current times. For Dark Sprites are sprites which have the ability to recreate data as if brand new, thus giving the process of revival a smaller chance of creating failure. The Roll for a revival using a Dark sprite is 16 or less to fend off becoming corrupted. While a revival without is 11 or less. A Player can hold up to 20 Dark sprites in a normal sized bag. Dark sprites can be collected from the bodies of fallen living humans, sometimes the corrupted and at times can even be bought for a hefty price.
